Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is a leading academic hospital and southeastern Ontario hub for complex acute and specialty care. With over 650,000 patients served annually and a strong research mandate, KHSC sought a digital health solution to enhance patient education, enable remote monitoring, streamline operations, and capture research-grade patient-reported outcomes data.

Since implementing è in 2023 initially for hip and knee replacement surgery, KHSC has achieved measurable success across clinical, operational, and patient experience metrics.

Key Results:

  • 44.4% Reduction in Average Length of Stay
  • 20.6% Reduction in 30-Day Readmissions
  • 24.7% Reduction in 30-Day Emergency Department Visits
  • 97% of patients would recommend è
  • 87% of patients reported è prevented calls to the hospital
  • 44% said it prevented at least one hospital visit

Delivered as a mobile and web-based virtual companion, è guides KHSC patients through every step of their journey from pre-op preparation to post-op recovery. The platform enables just-in-time education, remote monitoring of pain, mobility, incision photos, and daily symptom tracking, while also collecting Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) to support KHSC’s research and registry goals.

Dan Hogan, Director of Patient Care at KHSC, shared:

“è stood out to us because of its clinical credibility and customizability. Our surgeons were deeply involved from the start–reviewing content, validating workflows, and ensuring alignment with our protocols. The platform wasn’t just adopted – it was embraced.”

KHSC’s experience showcases the value of embedding digital care journeys into patient care to drive better outcomes, deeper insights, and a more connected patient experience.

Congratulations to the KHSC team for the incredible innovation and positive impact on patient care!
